The 4 automated emails every business should send

automated-email-marketing-setup.webp

Campaigns get the attention, but automations earn the money. Four sequences, built once, generate the majority of email revenue for most of our clients — and they keep running while nobody watches.

1. Welcome

The highest-engagement email you will ever send is the one immediately after someone signs up, because that is the moment they care most. Set expectations, give one genuinely useful thing, and make the next step obvious. Two or three emails, not one.

2. Abandonment

Whether it is a cart or an unfinished enquiry form, someone who got most of the way is your warmest possible audience. A short, helpful reminder within a day recovers a meaningful share of revenue you had already lost.

Built once, an automation earns for years. A campaign earns for a day.

3. Win-back

Customers do not usually leave, they drift. A sequence that notices lapsing behaviour and reaches out before they are gone is cheaper than any acquisition channel. One fitness client cut member churn 38% with exactly this.

4. Review request

Ask at the moment of satisfaction, not at month end. Automating this turns reviews from a chore into a stream, which then feeds your local rankings and AI recommendations — the same signals engines check before naming you.

Fix the plumbing first

None of this works from an inbox you cannot reach. Authenticate your domain, clean the list, and segment before you send. A clean list of 2,000 outperforms a neglected list of 20,000, and deliverability is where most email programmes quietly fail.

Where to start

Build the welcome sequence this month and the review request next. Those two alone change the economics of every other channel you run. Ask us for a free audit if you want them prioritised against your numbers.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Questions readers ask after this article

Is Email Still Effective in 2026?
More than ever, because you own the list — no algorithm decides who sees you. For most of our clients it is the highest-margin channel they run.
We Have No List. Can You Help?+
Yes. We build capture into your site, ads, and social first — offers and forms worth filling in — then start the flows. Buying lists is never on the table.
Which Platform Do You Use?+
Whatever suits your stack: Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Brevo, or your CRM's native tool. We work inside your account so you keep ownership and history.
How Often Should You Email Our List?+
Typically two to four campaigns a month plus always-on automations, tuned by engagement and unsubscribe signals. Enough to stay present, not enough to annoy.
Will This Damage Our Sender Reputation?+
The opposite. We start with authentication, list hygiene, and gradual warming, then monitor deliverability continuously. A clean list sends better than a big one.
Which Automations Are Most Valuable?+
Welcome, abandonment, post-purchase, re-engagement, and win-back. Built once, these usually generate the majority of email revenue with no ongoing effort.
Do You Write the Emails?+
Yes — copy, design, and build, approved by you before scheduling. If you have a brand voice guide we work to it; if not, we develop one from your best-performing material.
How Do You Measure Email Results?+
Revenue per campaign and per automation, plus list growth and engagement health — reported alongside your other channels so email is compared fairly against paid.
